Questa canzone/ban è l'adattamento italiano dei versi conclusivi della canzone folk americana "I've Been Working on the Railroad" ("Ho lavorato alla Ferrovia"). | |||
E' stata pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1894 con il titolo "Levee Song" su "Carmina Princetonia", un canzoniere dell'Università di Princeton. La prima registrazione conosciuta è stata effettuata nel 1927 dal gruppo Sandhills Sixteen per la Victor Records. | |||

Si canta disposti in cerchio: durante la prima strofa si battono le mani sulle proprie ginocchia, poi su quelle del compagno a destra, di nuovo sulle proprie, e poi su quelle del compagno a sinistra; nella seconda strofa si mima il gesto di suonare un flauto, e poi un banjo. | |||
